I am a Certified Nutrition Consultant, registered with the National Association of Nutrition Professions. I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara with honors in 1978. I graduated from Golden Gate University Law School in 1983 and was a practicing litigation attorney for 17 years. I began study on the first of my four levels of nutrition credentials - Diet Counselor, Nutrition Educator, Nutrition Consultant and Nutrition Instructor in 2001 at the Institute for Educational Therapy ( now Bauman College) and completed my studies in 2003. I have am now a member of the faculty at Bauman College and head Nutrition Instructor at the Penngrove campus.
My decision to change careers and pursue my passionate interest in nutrition grew out of my personal journey with my son's ADHD. When my son began first grade in1991 we began to notice that he had trouble staying on task and could not sit still for any amount of time. What followed was a seemingly endless series of phone calls from teachers and consultations with various therapists and psychologists. The experts told us he would “grow out of it” and the teachers kept complaining. In 1997 we received a diagnosis of ADHD and were advised to put him on medication. We agonized. He continued to struggle. Finally, in desperation, we put him on a low dose of medication. School got a lot easier for him, but he was irritable, lost weight and often had trouble getting to sleep at night.

I had heard that dietary changes could help people with ADD and ADHD. However, when I asked his doctors about it I was told that it was just too difficult to modify a child's diet enough to make a difference. I decided to try anyway. I began to read everything I could find on nutrition. Slowly, I initiated changes in my son's diet. He began to calm down a little. I knew I was on the right track, but I needed to know more. So I began my formal studies.
Over the course of the next three years my son continued to use medication, but was able to lower his dosage. He is now a successful college student. He no longer uses medication and relies upon nutritional supplements, careful dietary choices and stress reduction techniques to assist his focus and concentration.
I began Nutrition Focus because I know that there are people out there like me and my son who are struggling with the confusion and frustration that mental focus issues and hyperactivity can cause. I am here to serve you as a nutrition consultant and wellness coach. I approach each client as a unique individual. Together we develop nutritional protocols and strategies for change that are compatible with your needs and resources. I would love to be of service to you.
